10 steps to build your high-impact profile on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a very powerful tool to position ourselves, to make ourselves known in the corporate world and to have our knowledge in an area validated.

The numbers also confirm this:

LinkedIn is the source of 80% of professional leads compared to 13% coming from Twitter and 7% from Facebook.

No less than 560 million leads, with an impressive level of information about them and a direct way to contact them. However, this social network will not be a powerful tool in lead generation unless you have a high-impact professional profile.

Below you will find some practices that have been key to the success of our projects with customers. Profile optimization is the zero step of the social selling strategy on LinkedIn.

Best practices to maximize your LinkedIn profile in a few steps:

1. Profile photo and presentation banner

Profile Photo:

  • It should show a smile
  • Clean background
  • Excellent resolution
  • Up-to-date photo
  • Professional clothing
  • Face in foreground
  • Torso fronting onto the camera

TIP 💡 Your profile must be adapted to the network context. It doesn’t mean wearing a suit, just seeing ourselves as if we were going to a face-to-face meeting with a customer.

Presentation Banner:

  • Use photos of events where we have participated.
  • Use high contrast tones to highlight the readable data we leave there.
  • Adapt it to the objectives of your profile: Corporate or personal brand.

1. Headline

You should be careful with:

  • Using incomprehensible abbreviations.
  • Avoiding excessive capitalization.

The profile photo, banner and headline hold the potential to decide in 2 seconds whether the person viewing your profile leaves or stays, through visual scanning.

3. Keywords

All your texts should be very accurate and focused on your goal, with a catchy summary and keywords in each paragraph of each section. 5 of the most important ones must be included in your extract.

4. Avoid using repeated words

Don’t be a robot, the repeated use of words can make the algorithm make you pose as a bot, which decreases the chances that they will find your profile.

5. Url

This improves your profile as the result will be much friendlier and easier to share. Customize the URL of your public profile with an address such as www.linkedin.com/in/[your-name]/

6. About

Create an extract that captures the attention, write it in first person in four or five lines maximum with a brief summary of experience, responsibilities, achievements and interests.

7. Highlights

Structure the information you want to show in key points and think about how each of this multimedia content is linked to your value proposition.

8. Experience

Add objectives, responsibilities or achievements in each position worked in a few lines (four or five). Add multimedia content associated with the activity performed. Publish your career path in a clear and well-structured fashion.

9. Education

As with your work experience, you do not have to put all the studies and certifications that you have achieved throughout your life. It is best to select and put only those degrees and training that can push you in the right direction.

10. Recommendations

It is a section where content will be provided by other users by making a professional and personal assessment about you, so the most important thing is to select very well who we ask for the recommendations. It is suggested to have at least two (2) recommendations “received” and one (1) “made”.

Now that you know the 10 basic best practices to turn your profile into a high-impact one, it’s time to implement them!
